For  over 75 years, the Adult School of Montclair has offered classes, lectures, experiences, and opportunities as unique as the communities we serve!

We’re proud of our history. And we’re proud that we continue to deliver excellence in adult education as we celebrate a milestone anniversary.

Educational programs as diverse as our students!

The Adult School offers diverse educational programs that meet the needs of every member of our community.

In 1942, we presented classes that included “English for New Americans” and “Seamanship for Yachtsman”. Today we offer more than 500 live and online courses on business, education, computers, test preparation, writing, languages, fitness, personal growth, crafts, cooking, gardening, dance and the arts.

ASM is also a vibrant forum where we explore innovative ideas, examine critical issues, and challenge the conventional wisdom of the status quo.

In the past, we’ve featured speakers like Dean Rusk, Reinhold Niebuhr, Amiri Baraka, Margaret Mead, Eugene McCarthy, Paul Volcker, and Maya Angelou.

Building communities, building friendships

The Adult School of Montclair is not just run for the people of our communities. It’s run by the people of our communities. Our students, our teachers, and our volunteers all help shape the classes we offer and how the school is run.

Further, once people become involved with us, they stay involved. Students become volunteers and teachers. Teachers and volunteers become students. And many life-long friendships have begun at the Adult School of Montclair!
